I hitch hiked the Silk Road in the early 1970s got a lift from Istanbul to Iran with a convoy of three German lorries l travelled with the leader of the convoy who had done the trip before, but got out at the Bazagan border because of the sever delays with the lorries attempting to cross. I walked through the border and caught a lift on the Iran side taking me the Tehran. What an amazing journey on the Turkish side the roads that ran straight through the middle of the Turkish villages. The children and men would stand in the middle of the road with their hand out demanding baksheesh blocking the lorry if you did not give the cigarettes or money they had a large rock behind their back and would stone the windshield of the lorry, Turkish bandits riding around on horse back carrying ancient long barrel rifles, you would be mad to stop.

Why does Pat’s truck keep changing? One minute he’s driving a 3600 without advisor and the next he’s driving. A 3600 with advisor. Did one of those trucks break down during production of this video?

I used to live in Kavala as a kid I remember all the trucks from all over Europe passing the city going to Turkey and the middle east.There were only two land roads to the middle east ,one of them was through Kavala.

J'ai tiré pour eux dans les années 90 c'était une période de ma vie inoubliable, j'ai eu du mal à m'en remettre quand je les ai quitté ( raison perso) la mere iouchum une femme de caractère hors paire, 😅 et ces 2 chiens husky , alors bien sur c'était pas le nec plus ultra du transport mais ça restait une forme de transport ou rouler avait 1 sens ou les chauffeurs en TIR ( qui n'a rien à avoir avec " transport international routier " ) avait une forme de solidarité en terre inconnue qui s'apprécier, un temps que les moins de 20 ans ne connaîtront jamais

Bin von 1989 - 1993 für HIGHWAY TRANSPORTE da runter gefahren. Die Bilder erinnern mich an die interessanteste Zeit meines Lebens. Das war noch Abenteuer und nicht so ein Stress wie heute.

Welche sprache ist das?

1989 bis 1996 Linie Köln - Istanbul. Kein Handy, firma hörte von mir nur wenn ich anrief, diesel in Rumänien für 50 Pfennig bei Bauern getankt und mit 1 Mark mit Chef abgerechnet und er wusste das, sonst an der Tankstelle nämlich 1,30 - 1,50 DM der Liter. Eine geile Zeit.

En 2024 , mon entreprise fait encore des trajets Angers => Istanbul ! Un collègue actuellement en frontière Bulgare :)

I enjoyed watching that. Hats off to H and all lorry drivers. Special breeds. I hope families Understand all the hard work and emotional dilemmas just to put food on their table. All lorry drivers need more respect. They are ships of the road for everything. 2024.... Still treated like dirt from governments and road planners in the UK. Any big roads are now turned into unused cycle paths and bollards everywhere and also stricked entry into some towns/cities. Narrowed to make a lorry driver look stupid. Not great pay for some still......

Ouai vraiment les mecs ils ont raison la musique nulle , et la synchro musique son juste mediocre et je suis poli . Le métier de routier à l'epoque c'etait pas un boulot de bureaucrate , il fallait mouiller sa chemise à tous les sens du terme , changer les roues en cas de crevaisons ,et par tous les temps et à ces epoques y avait la neige plus que maintenant , il n'y avait pas la direction assistée , ni les GPS , il fallait faire les doubles debrayages , et le confort etait plutot spartiate , et y avait l'esprit de camaraderie . Que de marques ont disparues , je parle de marques francaises telles que UNIC , Willeme, Bernard , Panhard, ,et Berliet qui a été absorbé par renault sur decision politique , quel désastre !
